Backcountry Safety Awareness and Practice

December 8, 2013 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

| Free

To all backcountry skiers, snowboarders, mountaineers, other curious people:

Come out and practice your backcountry safety skills with ASWWU Outdoors to get ready for this winter!  We will practice avalanche awareness and rescue skills that everyone who goes into the backcountry should have.

We’ll practice skills such as:

          • Beacon searching
    • Snow probing/shoveling
    • Mock rescue scenarios
  • Snow stability assessment (digging snow pits, etc)
  • HOT CHOCOLATE DRINKING!
  • FREE PARKING!  (please carpool)

Everyone can come out! Whether you want to share your own knowledge and experience, practice your safety skills, or just get an introduction to avalanche safety, this event will be useful for you.

Remember, practicing safety skills is the way to make sure you are ready in case of a real emergency!  Note that this event is not an official class or training course and you will not receive any sort of endorsement or certifications for attending.  This event alone is not comprehensive and does not qualify anyone to go into avalanche terrain!
