A Senate for the Students

By Alyssa Knecht
For any of those who have gone into The Atlas for a warm drink or who have studied in The Atlas, then you have already participated in decisions that have come through Senate. The Atlas, the rock wall, social events, and more have all started out as bills that came through Senate. Senate is a great way for students to get involved with ASWWU. As a senator, you are helping to make decisions that will shape ASWWU now and in the future.

As the executive vice president (EVP), it is my job to facilitate Senate and ensure that each senator is representing the constituents of their district. I also manage the Long-Term Project Fund, which currently has $80,000. This money can only be spent on things that students like you want! Since I will be managing this money along with other members of ASWWU, it is important to me that I am available for you all to reach me with any ideas. You can always reach me through email at alyssa.knecht@wallawalla.edu. Additionally, I will have office hours every Monday and Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. in the ASWWU offices. My door is always open so please don’t hesitate to reach out!

I decided to run for EVP because I have a passion for this campus. It is important for me to encourage change on such a great campus, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than through my role as EVP. My hopes for this year are to engage with students and bring some of your ideas to life on our campus.

Senate meets every Monday night at 7 p.m. in Bowers Hall. Senate is open to anyone who would like to come. It is a great way to be involved in decisions that can impact you now.

As always, never hesitate to reach out!
