Black History Month

Ashley Herber

Hello everyone and welcome to our special Black History Month issue! In this issue we are taking some time to celebrate special achievements made by Black people both nationally and here on our campus.

Read this week’s feature on the Black Student Christian Forum to learn what BSCF does and how its officers cultivate an informed and active community. Check out our column on scientific advancements made by Black scientists throughout history. Also be sure to look at our news story on business professor Dr. Patience Taruwinga’s accomplishments and passion for serving others.

We also took time this week to discuss Ibram X. Kendi’s book “How to be an Antiracist” because it is important to learn from Black thinkers of today about how to best approach the subject of racism. In this article you will find a summary of Kendi’s book and a discussion of how actively being antiracist fits with our Christian calling to treat others with respect and love. I hope you take the time to both read this article and to examine your own internal biases.
