Warner Pacific Earn Their First Conference Win Against Walla Walla

COLLEGE PLACE, Washington — Walla Walla Men’s Basketball had a rough start to their weekend at home, as Warner Pacific University took their first conference win over the Wolves, 99 to 71. 

The Wolves had a slow and off-day as they went up against the Knights of Warner Pacific. Nothing went in for the Wolves as everything bounced in-and-out of the hoop, making their shooting percentage for the first half 24.3% and 8.3% from the three. These numbers are not like the usual numbers they put up. However, on the Knights end, they couldn’t miss, shooting 50% from the three and 83.3% from the line. To end the first half, Walla Walla was down by 24 points, 20-44.  

The second half the Wolves started to pick up the pace. Yet their efforts fell short, as the Knights continued on, scoring 55 points compared to the Wolves 51.  

The Knights had a great team win with six athletes scoring in the double digits. Mark Wishom led with 18 points, followed by Sean Johnson with 15, Maxwell Moses with 14, Josiah Castillo with 12, and Matt Solomon and Sherman Royal III with 10. Maxwell Moses earned himself a double-double for the afternoon with 11 rebounds on top of his 14 points. Caleb Tyree-Morgan led the Knights with six assists.  

For Walla Walla, Andrew Vaughan led the team with 33 points, making this a career high for the junior. Thomas Mestrov had nine points, followed by Almonds Sebirokwa with eight. Vaughan also led the team in rebounds with seven, followed by Sebirokwa with six. Freshman Jalen Dunn put some points on the board with four, and added three assists to his stat sheet, tying with Caleb Golden, Almonds Sebirokwa, and Andrew Vaughan who all had three assists as well.  

The Wolves will be back in action tomorrow night where they will face the Lions of Multnomah. Seniors, Caleb Golden, Ethan Ford, and DJ Roberston will be honored before tip-off, as they play in their final home game of their careers. Tip-off is at 9 pm on Windemuth Court.

Men’s Basketball Fall to the Lions of Multnomah in Overtime Thriller on Senior Night  

COLLEGE PLACE, Washington — Walla Walla Men’s Basketball fell to the Lions of Multnomah in an epic overtime thriller. The Lions took the win, 99 to 91, giving them their fifth conference win.  

The atmosphere was electric as the Wolves and Lions faced off. Both teams played an impressive game, keeping the energy up throughout. The Wolves maintained a lead up until the end of the second half as the Lions' sharp shooting changed the script. Multnomah was up by three with less than two minutes left to go, but a deep three from senior Ethan Ford forced overtime.  

Unfortunately in overtime, the Wolves were unable to get back their lead as the Lions took the win 99 to 91.  

For Walla Walla, Andrew Vaughan had another impressive game going 8 for 11 from the three and earning himself 30 points and six rebounds. Senior Ethan Ford had a great night with 18 points, 14 assists, and nine rebounds, almost earning himself a triple-double. Almonds Sebirokwa was the second highest scorer with 23 points. Senior Caleb Golden had five points for the game, as well as two rebounds, and one block. Senior DJ Roberston had three points, and one block as well for the night.  

On Multnomah’s end, Tyrese Taylor led with 25 points and 13 rebounds, earning a double-double for the night. James Sanders followed with 18 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Miles Macadory had 19 points, one steal, and one block. Marje Windfield had 10 points, two blocks, and one steal.  

The Wolves will go to Ashland, Oregon next week where they will face Southern Oregon University at 2 pm on Friday, February 23.
